Job description
Overview

Are you a time served Mechanical Engineer? Do you have experience within a Heavy Industrial environment? Are you based in or around Caerphilly?

We are supporting TATA Steel with a permanent opportunity for a Mechanical Fitter at their Catnic site in Caerphilly. Catnic Caerphilly provides sustainable, steel construction products within the residential sector.

The successful applicant will hold a time served Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship and have experience within a Heavy Industrial environment.

Role: Mechanical Fitter

Location: TATA Steel/Catnic, Pontypandy Industrial Estate, Caerphilly, CF83 3GL

Rate: £38,601 per annum

Shifts: Days, Mon-Thu 07:00-16:00 and Fri 07:00-12:30 (39.5 hours per week). Once fully trained and settled (approx 6 months) will join the nightshift rota. This is 1 in 4. Nights: Mon-Wed 20:30-07:00 and Thu 18:30-04:30

Start: ASAP but pending the successful result of a medical assessment. (This does include a drug and alcohol test)

Responsibilities
  • Undertaking preventative maintenance on processing machinery
  • Conducting maintenance and repair on ancillary equipment
  • Being part of preventative maintenance improvement initiatives and programmes to avoid unplanned downtime
  • Overseeing work provided by third party suppliers to ensure good standard
  • Adhering to UK Health and Safety at all times and encouraging others in the department to do the same
  • Adhering to strict Health and Safety protocols and SSOW
Essential requirements
  • Time served apprenticeship and NVQ3 (Mechanical Engineering)
  • ONC/HNC qualification (or equivalent) within a Mechanical Engineering subject
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic equipment
  • UK Driving Licence and access to own vehicle
  • The ability to conduct a physically demanding role, with no concerns around working with grease, scale and dust on a daily basis
  • Ability to be fully flexible and adhere to the shift pattern
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of UK Health and Safety legislation
  • Welding and Fabrication skill (desirable)
