Job summary

Imerys is seeking a skilled Mechanical Fitter in Stoke-on-Trent to maintain, repair and improve a range of mechanical systems and plant equipment. You will work within an experienced engineering team, conducting planned maintenance, addressing failures and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

The role requires an NVQ Level 3/apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering, a full UK driving licence and prior experience in heavy industrial environments.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Experience in manufacturing, processing, quarrying or heavy industrial environments.
• Strong mechanical maintenance and fault-finding skills.
• Experience with industrial pipework systems and pumps/ conveyors.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, repair and improve mechanical systems and plant equipment across site.
• Perform planned preventative maintenance and respond to equipment failures.

The Role

As a Mechanical Fitter, you'll be responsible for maintaining, repairing and improving a variety of mechanical systems and plant equipment essential to site operations. Working as part of an experienced engineering team, you'll carry out planned preventative maintenance, respond to equipment failures and support improvement projects to maximise plant reliability and performance.

Your work will include maintaining and repairing:

• Industrial ABS and PVC pipework systems
• Water pumps and air pumps
• Conveyors, belts and associated mechanical equipment
• Valves, bearings, gearboxes and drive systems
• General fixed plant and processing equipment

You’ll also support shutdown activities, equipment installations and continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring all work is completed safely and in line with company procedures.

What You’ll Bring

• Essential NVQ Level 3, apprenticeship or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering
• Full UK Driving Licence
• Experience working within manufacturing, processing, quarrying or heavy industrial environments
• Strong mechanical maintenance and fault-finding skills
• Experience working with industrial pipework systems
• Experience maintaining pumps, conveyors and associated mechanical equipment
• Knowledge of planned preventative maintenance and breakdown repair activities
• A strong commitment to health and safety
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team

Desirable

• Welding and fabrication experience
• Experience working within mineral processing or heavy industry
• Pump installation and alignment experience
• Experience maintaining bearings, gearboxes and drive systems
• Confined Space training
• MEWP, forklift or mobile plant licences
• Experience using SAP or other maintenance management systems
