Job description

Job Title: Mechanical Fitter

Location: Leicester

Type: Temp to Perm

Pay: £20.13 per hour, rising to £30.20 per hour after 8 hours

Company: HBG (client's maintenance and engineering team in the food processing industry)

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform mechanical fitting, assembly, and maintenance on food production machinery and equipment.
  • Carry out MIG/TIG and arc welding for repairs, modifications, and fabrication of plant components.
  • Conduct preventative and reactive maintenance to minimise downtime and support production efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical faults and implement effective solutions quickly and safely.
  • Adhere to strict food safety and hygiene protocols, ensuring compliance with industry regulations (e.g., HACCP, BRC).
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance tasks and repairs in line with company procedures.
  • Support equipment installations, commissioning, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering teams to maintain operational excellence.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter in a food manufacturing or FMCG environment.
  • Competent in welding techniques (MIG, TIG, ARC) and fabrication.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems (pumps, conveyors, motors, gearboxes, etc.).
  • Understanding of health, safety, and hygiene requirements in food production.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and manuals.
  • Flexible, reliable, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
