A Mechanical Fitter is a skilled tradesperson responsible for assembling, maintaining, and repairing machinery and equipment in various industrial settings. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of mechanical systems and components, as well as proficiency in using tools and machinery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assembly and Installation: Assemble and install mechanical components and systems according to technical specifications and blueprints.
  • Maintenance and Repair: Conduct routine maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and perform repairs on machinery to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Inspection: Inspect equipment and systems to identify wear and tear, potential failures, and areas requiring maintenance or repair.
  • Modification: Modify and fabricate parts as needed to improve or repair machinery, adhering to safety standards and technical guidelines.
  • Testing: Test and evaluate the performance of mechanical systems after repairs or installations, ensuring they meet operational standards.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and inspections performed, including parts used and time spent.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of mechanical systems, components, and machinery, including hydraulics, pneumatics, and engines.
  • Tool Proficiency: Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments essential for mechanical fitting tasks.
  • Blueprint Reading: Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals to guide assembly and repair work.
