Mechanical Fitter

Salary – £16.60 per hour
Hours – 47.50 hours per week
Location – Darrington Quarry, WF11 0AY

As a Mechanical Fitter at FCC Environment, you will be responsible for the safe and effective maintenance and repair of fixed and mobile plant across our operations. You will play a key role in supporting operational continuity and minimising equipment downtime while maintaining high safety standards.

This vacancy is for a full-time position, working 5 days per week.

What will you be doing?
  1. Carrying out mechanical repair and maintenance on both static and mobile plant, including engines
  2. Performing servicing and inspections to minimise breakdowns and maintain efficient plant operation
  3. Identifying faults, carrying out diagnostics and implementing timely, effective solutions
  4. Conducting risk assessments for non-routine tasks and adhering to safe systems of work
  5. Ordering necessary tools, equipment, and parts as required for maintenance tasks
  6. Ensuring all work is carried out in line with company health and safety procedures and industry regulations
  7. Reporting any near-misses, incidents or unsafe practices and contributing to site safety improvements
  8. Working both independently and as part of the wider maintenance and engineering team
What are we looking for?
  1. Has experience maintaining and repairing static and mobile plant, ideally within a quarry or similar environment
  2. Is a self-motivated problem solver with good fault-finding and diagnostic skills
  3. Works well both independently and as part of a team
  4. Demonstrates a strong awareness of health and safety procedures and safe working practices
  5. Is organised, reliable, and able to manage their workload efficiently
  6. Has completed relevant Competency Management System modules and other required training
