Qualifications

Job description

MCS Group is currently working in partnership with a leading public sector organisation to recruit a Mechanical Engineering Technician on a long term temporary contract (6 months with the view to extension). Excellent hourly rate - £19.11 ph + benefits.

The Role:

  • Carry out maintenance, fault diagnosis, repair, and modification of emergency response vehicles and specialist equipment to legislative and best practice standards, including MOT inspections, bodywork, hydraulics, electrics, and welding.

  • Provide out-of-hours engineering support through an on-call rota, making autonomous decisions on vehicle and equipment repairs, and performing emergency roadside or incident scene repairs, often in adverse conditions.

  • Utilise engineering tools and computer diagnostics to fabricate parts, test and repair electronic systems, perform PAT testing, and maintain onboard electrical systems (110v and 240v).

  • Maintain accurate records via the Management Information System (MIS), including MOT inspections, asset tagging, repair data, and estimates for uneconomical repairs.

  • Manage stock, tools, and parts inventory including audits, security, issuing, and restocking, while liaising with Supplies for parts identification and procurement.

  • Provide training, supervision, and support to apprentices and operational firefighters, while ensuring all engineering accreditations and training are up to date across all specialist areas.

  • Support governance and service improvement by maintaining legal compliance, contributing to investigations, liaising with manufacturers, promoting organisation policies, and delivering high standards of customer service.

The Person:

  • Posses a certified level 3 trade qualification in the NQF in Vehicle Repair and Maintenance.
  • Experience post-apprenticeship in working with heavy vehicles.
  • Experience working with plant mechanics and light vehicle repair.
  • Competency in MIS systems.
  • Possess a current UK C drivers license.
