Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an aspiring aerospace/mechanical engineering student for an Early Careers placement. You will gain experience from requirements and concept through full product design while working across design and analysis disciplines at sites in Cheltenham and Bristol.

You will use ANSYS, SolidWorks, and MATLAB to analyse performance, set up experiments, and interpret test data, contributing to the product development lifecycle and COTS integration.

Qualifications

  • Currently studying an Aerospace/Mechanical/General Engineering related Bachelor’s or integrated Master’s degree.
  • On course to achieve a 2:1 degree or above.
  • In your penultimate year of study and returning to education post placement.
  • BPSS clearance required and must be maintained.
  • Permanent right to work in the UK; sponsorship is not available for Early Careers opportunities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work towards deadlines and take ownership for projects.

Responsibilities

  • Gain experience across mechanical engineering, from requirements and concept through full product design.
  • Work across design and analysis disciplines.
  • Define test specifications and support physical tests.
  • Contribute across the product development lifecycle, from new product introduction to in-service support.
  • Support mechanical design, structural and thermal analysis, production support, fault finding, root cause investigation, and corrective actions in Cheltenham.
  • Design, analyse, and test mechanical systems and components in Bristol.
  • Use ANSYS, SolidWorks, and MATLAB to analyse performance.
  • Set up experiments and interpret test data.
  • Research new technologies and materials for mechanical applications.
  • Develop robotic and automated mechanical systems for inspection and repair within the MRO network.
  • Define problems and capture requirements with project teams and customers.
  • Research and integrate commercial off-the-shelf solutions.
  • Collect and process data; contribute to design, rapid prototyping, testing, and industrialisation.
  • Produce technical documentation including specifications, installation procedures, and system configurations.
  • Deliver projects with support, coaching, and mentoring from the People Leader and team.

Requirements
  • Currently studying an Aerospace, Mechanical Design, Mechanical Analysis, Mechanical Engineering or General Engineering related Bachelor’s or integrated Master’s degree
