Mechanical Engineering Lead – Data Centres (EMEA)
We're supporting a rapidly expanding data centre platform as it builds out its engineering capability across EMEA. This is a rare opportunity for a senior mechanical engineering professional to shape the technical direction of large-scale, next-generation data centre developments from concept through delivery.
This role sits within a central Design & Engineering function, acting as the mechanical authority across a growing portfolio of hyperscale developments. You'll define engineering standards, influence major design decisions, and help deliver some of the most advanced and sustainable data centres in Europe.
Responsibilities
- Define and own mechanical engineering standards, design guidelines and reference solutions across the programme.
- Lead mechanical system selection and provide technical leadership throughout the design lifecycle.
- Develop mechanical design strategies in collaboration with electrical and architectural engineering teams.
- Drive energy-efficient mechanical solutions with a focus on low PUE and sustainability objectives.
- Lead the evaluation and implementation of advanced cooling technologies, including liquid cooling and hybrid thermal solutions.
- Provide technical leadership across cooling architecture, heat rejection, controls and energy optimisation.
- Assess emerging technologies and support their implementation where they provide measurable operational or commercial value.
- Manage and provide technical oversight to external consultants, designers, CFD specialists and equipment manufacturers.
- Support commissioning, operational readiness and post-handover technical issue resolution.
- Champion continuous improvement by incorporating lessons learned, operational feedback and industry innovation.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Chartered Engineer (or working towards) preferred.
- 12+ years' experience within mission-critical facilities or hyperscale data centre design.
- Strong expertise in mechanical building services, cooling systems, heat transfer and CFD analysis.
- Experience designing solutions for high-density compute and AI workloads.
- Deep understanding of energy efficiency, sustainability and PUE optimisation.
- Proven experience introducing innovative mechanical technologies into live development programmes.
- Comfortable influencing senior stakeholders and leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Willingness to travel across EMEA when required.
Why Apply?
- Opportunity to influence the engineering standards for a major European data centre platform.
- Work on cutting-edge hyperscale and AI-ready facilities.
- Exposure to some of the industry's most advanced cooling and sustainability initiatives.
- Highly visible role with genuine technical ownership and strategic influence.
