The role

As aMechanical Engineering – Deputy Team Leader, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Join a specialist team working with cutting-edge equipment, ensuring operational capability within the fuel handling function at Devonport Site. Play a vital role in maintaining excellence in safety, efficiency, and performance.

Day-to-day, you’ll assist with daily fuel handling operations, ensuring safety, compliance, and efficiency across the site while maintaining high standards in procedures and activities.

  • Oversee daily shift activities and resource allocation under Fuel Handling Managers’ direction.
  • Serve as the primary coordinator for fuel handling, neutron source moves, and Nuclear Transfer route operations.
  • Manage and execute approved procedures within the section.
  • Ensure timely completion of procedures and quality records for assurance.
  • Foster and promote a strong safety culture within the fuel handling section.

This role is full time 35, hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard

There is an opportunity for Optimised Working Patterns (OWP) within this role. OWP is a temporary variation to your standard terms and condition that commits you to support 7-day working arrangements. For full details of the patterns, pay and durations, this can be found in the OWP 1 and OWP 2 agreements (available from hiring manager).

Primarily, it involves 4-week shift cycles consisting of either day/back shift or day/night shift.

Essential experience of the Mechanical Engineering – Deputy Team Leader

  • Awareness of UK civil and defence nuclear regulatory requirements is beneficial.
  • Experience in mechanical engineering within a high-hazard industry.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplined team.
  • Experience in directing and managing both Non-Industrial and Industrial staff.

Qualifications for the Mechanical Engineering – Deputy Team Leader

  • ONC in Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent - Essential

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
