The Isle of Wight College is offering a fantastic opportunity for two Mechanical Engineering Apprentices at Neida Blue62, a leading supplier of precision turned parts. As an apprentice, you will operate machinery, check work, and attend college to work towards an Engineering Apprenticeship qualification. This is a hands-on role requiring GCSEs in Maths and English, with the possibility of a permanent position after successful completion.

  • Due to location, own transport would be preferable.

  • Checking work using Micrometers and Verniers.
  • Reading and interpreting technical drawings.

Here at The Isle of Wight College we work with a number of employers, in a vast array of industries.A fantastic opportunity has arisen to work for Neida Blue62 as a Mechanical Engineering Apprentice.

This is a unique opportunity for two enthusiastic, pro-active apprentices to join a leading global supplier of precision turned parts.

Formed in 1969, Neida Blue62 have experienced significant growth within the precision turned parts industry to become a leading global supplier enabling them to service all markets worldwide.

An extensive investment programme, with the aims of maximising quality and increasing competitiveness, has not only led to the growth of Neida but also forms the platform upon which the organisation's success is based. This philosophy allows the company to remain at the forefront of the turned parts industry, the benefits of which are shared with all their customers.

Rather excitingly and due to high achievement of apprentice success, they are now looking to recruit two Mechanical Manufacturing apprentices to join their friendly team in Freshwater on The Isle of Wight whilst working towards an Engineering Apprenticeship qualification.

Apprentice Role and Responsibilities:

·Operating machinery including milling and turning.

·Checking work using Micrometer’s and Vernier’s.

·Reading and interpreting technical drawings.

·General housekeeping in line with Health and Safety policies and standards.

·Use and understand Engineering Drawings and Data.

·Understand company, customer and statutory H & S and environmental requirements.

·In the second year: Without supervision – set basic parts and take these through to first off approval.

·Without supervision – run machines ensuring utilisation and quality targets are achieved.

·Load and Prepare CNC Programs to Machine

·Under supervision – run machines ensuring utilisation and quality targets are achieved.

·Understand and make amendments to CNC Programs.

·Attend College as required and maintain satisfactory level of work.

Person Specification and Essential Skills:

·Must be hands on.

·Practical.

·Willing to take instructions.

·Punctual.

·Good communication skills.

·Due to location, own transport would be preferable.

Qualifications Required:

GCSE grade C/4 or above in Maths is essential. GCSE grade C/4 or above in English (or equivalent qualification and/or ability to work towards these Functional Skills.)

Apprenticeship:

·Either Engineering Operative Level 2 or Machining Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard, dependant on the successful candidates’ prior qualifications.

·One day weekly attendance at CECAMM as part of the apprenticeship.

·Functional Skills in Maths & English if required.

·There is a requirement to complete off the job training, this includes time spent either learning something new, other courses or any support work that is not in your usual role.

Working Week:

37.5 hours per week consisting of two shift patterns.

Week 1: 6am – 2pm.

Week 2: 2pm – 10pm.

Wage:

To be confirmed.

Apprenticeship duration will be around 42-48 months.

The current National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £7.55 per hour. This applies to 16-18-year-old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. Once qualified and following on from successful completion of the apprenticeship, a permanent position may be available for the successful candidate depending on suitability and need at the time.
