Job description

Mechanical Engineering Apprentice - UTM LTD

UTM Limited is the leading manufacturer and supplier of Training Ammunition, supplying military and law enforcement agencies in over 70 countries worldwide. UTM is continually developing new training ammunition products. The apprenticeship may involve working in both UTM and its associated medical device development company in Mildenhall.

You will be:

  • Training in a wide range of mechanical engineering skills.
  • Operating machine tools including milling machines, lathes, and surface grinders.
  • Reading component drawings.
  • Working to tight tolerances.
  • Providing engineering support to production departments.
  • Collaborating closely with other apprentices, technicians, and supervisors.
Entry requirements

GCSE Maths and English Grade 5-9 - Essential.

Training to be Provided

The learner will undertake the Machining Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard qualification. Functional skills will be studied if equivalent qualifications are not held.

Things to consider

This is a technical role requiring good attention to detail and the ability to work to tight tolerances and deadlines. Candidates should be aware that occasional overtime and shift work may be required. Candidates are responsible for arranging their own transport to Mildenhall and Bury St Edmunds.

Future Prospects

Potential future roles within the group include Toolmaking, design, development, production, wire/spark erosion, CNC, technical sales, and maintenance. Previous apprentices have progressed to senior technical and management roles across the group.
