Job summary

Stantec is recruiting a Mechanical Engineer to support delivery across water and wastewater projects in the North West. Based in Manchester or Warrington, you will work with senior engineers to develop safe, efficient and sustainable solutions through the full project lifecycle.

You'll contribute to feasibility, concept design and detailed design, producing specifications and documentation while collaborating with electro-mechanical disciplines and clients.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent required.
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (CEng/IEng) or working toward.
  • Experience in mechanical design for water or regulated infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of mechanical design principles and industry standards.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Proactive learning mindset and development.
  • Good organisation with multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Support mechanical design from feasibility to construction.
  • Produce calculations, specs, schedules, reports and documentation.
  • Assist with pumping stations, treatment works, pipelines and mechanical plant.
  • Undertake site visits, surveys and investigations as required.
  • Collaborate with electrical, process, civil and structural engineers.
  • Work with clients and contractors to deliver safely and to a high standard.

Mechanical Engineer – Manchester or Warrington

About the role

As a Mechanical Engineer, you'll support the delivery of mechanical engineering design across a wide range of water and wastewater infrastructure projects. Working closely with senior engineers, Project Managers and other technical disciplines, you'll contribute to the development of safe, efficient and sustainable engineering solutions.

  • Support mechanical design activities from feasibility and concept design through to detailed design and construction support.
  • Produce mechanical calculations, technical specifications, schedules, reports and engineering documentation.
  • Assist with the design of pumping stations, water and wastewater treatment works, pipelines and associated mechanical infrastructure.
  • Undertake site visits, surveys and technical investigations where required.
  • Collaborate with electrical, process, civil and structural engineers to deliver integrated project solutions.
  • Work closely with clients, contractors and internal stakeholders to help deliver projects safely, efficiently and to a high technical standard.

About you
Essential
  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (CEng/IEng) or actively working towards.
  • Experience within mechanical engineering design, ideally within the water sector or another regulated infrastructure industry.
  • Understanding of mechanical engineering design principles and industry standards.
  • Strong communication and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • A proactive approach to learning and professional development.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Desirable
  • Experience within the water, utilities, energy or infrastructure sectors.
  • Knowledge of pumping systems, treatment processes or mechanical plant design.
  • Experience producing technical specifications, reports and engineering documentation.
  • Experience using digital engineering tools and modern methods of project delivery.
