Are you ready to shape the future of water infrastructure? We’re looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our Water Solutions team, with flexibility to be based in St Albans, Croydon, Basingstoke, Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter, or Plymouth.

In this role, you’ll contribute to delivering multi-billion-pound capital programmes across the UK water sector, working on projects from small rural sites to complex infrastructure schemes in water and wastewater. These long-term frameworks extend through AMP8 and AMP9, providing security and the chance to make a significant impact.

You will support key programmes including:

  • Southern Water – £3.7 billion Capital Delivery Programme:
    • Supporting Tier 1 Contractors on:
    • Lot 1: Non-infrastructure water projects
    • Lot 2: Non-infrastructure wastewater projects
  • Low Complexity Delivery Route & SDP Lot 3 Infrastructure Frameworks: Partnering with Tier 1 Contractors for wastewater infrastructure projects.
  • South West Water – Engineering Consultancy Services Framework: Lot 3 – Multi-Discipline Engineering Design
  • Wessex Water – Capital Delivery Partner Framework: Lot 2 – Design Consultants

With flexible working, you’ll collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative solutions. As part of AECOM, you’ll work on impactful projects that benefit communities and the environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Feasibility studies, design, and construction support
  • Producing design drawings, mechanical plant specifications
  • Collaborating with water, civil, electrical, and process engineers
  • Designing mechanical installations such as water/wastewater pumps, screens, valves, odour control systems, pipework
  • Site visits for surveys and client liaison
  • Creating plant layouts, technical specs, datasheets, valve and equipment schedules, P&IDs
  • Pump system analysis and headloss calculations

Qualifications

What we’re looking for:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Progress towards Chartered Engineer status (e.g., with IMechE)
  • Experience in delivering engineering designs, reports, drawings, specifications, calculations
  • Experience in water and wastewater projects
