Job summary

Stantec in Newcastle is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join the Water team, delivering mechanical design across water and wastewater projects and supporting development from concept to construction.

You will work with project managers and multidisciplinary teams, prepare calculations and documentation, contribute to feasibility studies, and pursue chartered status with ICE with mentoring.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience delivering or supporting mechanical design projects.
  • Understanding of mechanical systems in water/wastewater or similar process industry.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proactive approach to learning and professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Produce mechanical engineering designs for water and wastewater facilities, pumping stations and infrastructure.
  • Prepare technical calculations, equipment schedules, specifications and engineering documentation.
  • Support feasibility studies, optioneering and detailed design activities.
  • Work with Project Managers, multidisciplinary teams and clients to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Assist with technical reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Continue professional development with mentoring from engineers.

We're looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our Water team in Newcastle . ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Mechanical Engineer, you'll support the delivery of mechanical engineering design across a diverse portfolio of water infrastructure projects while continuing to develop your technical knowledge and professional experience.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Producing mechanical engineering designs for water and wastewater treatment facilities, pumping stations and associated infrastructure.
  • Preparing technical calculations, equipment schedules, specifications and engineering documentation.
  • Supporting feasibility studies, optioneering and detailed design activities.
  • Working collaboratively with Project Managers, multidisciplinary teams and clients to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.
  • Assisting with technical reviews and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Continuing your professional development with the support of experienced engineers and mentors.

ABOUT YOU
Essential
  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience delivering or supporting mechanical engineering design projects.
  • An understanding of mechanical systems associated with water and wastewater treatment infrastructure, or experience from a similar process industry.
  • Strong communication and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • A proactive approach to learning and professional development.
Desirable
  • Experience within the UK water sector.
  • Working towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
  • Experience producing engineering calculations, specifications and technical documentation.
  • Experience working with contractors or supporting project delivery.
