Job Description Start here. Grow here. Are you ready to shape the future of water infrastructure? We’re looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our Water Solutions team, with flexibility to be based in any of our England & Wales offices.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to multi-billion-pound capital programmes across the UK water sector, delivering projects from small rural sites to complex infrastructure and non-infrastructure schemes in water and wastewater.
  • Engage in long-term frameworks through AMP8 and AMP9 to provide secure, varied work and real impact on sustainable water solutions.
  • Support major frameworks, including:
    • Southern Water – £3.7 billion Capital Delivery Programme
    • Strategic Delivery Partner (SDP) Frameworks – supporting Tier 1 Contractors
    • Lot 1: Non-infrastructure water projects
    • Lot 2: Non-infrastructure wastewater projects
    • Low Complexity Delivery Route & SDP Lot 3 Infrastructure Frameworks – delivering high-quality wastewater projects with Tier 1 Contractors
    • South West Water – Engineering Consultancy Services Framework – Lot 3 – Multi-Discipline Engineering Design
    • Wessex Water – Capital Delivery Partner Framework – Lot 2 – Design Consultants
  • Collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions from inception through delivery.
What you'll do
  • Prepare feasibility studies, outline design, detailed design and construction support.
  • Produce design drawings, select mechanical plant and specifications.
  • Collaborate with water and other discipline teams (civil, electrical, process, mechanical) nationwide.
  • Design mechanical installations typically including municipal water and wastewater pumping stations, screens, grit removal, penstocks, valves, odour control systems, pipework, etc.
  • Conduct site visits for surveys and liaise with clients, contractors and suppliers.
  • Produce plant layouts, technical specifications, datasheets, valve schedules, equipment schedules, lifting strategies and P&IDs.
  • Develop headloss calculations and pumping system analysis/selection.
Qualifications
  • A degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Progress towards Chartered Engineer status with a relevant institution (e.g., IMechE).
  • Proven ability to deliver engineering designs, reports, drawings, technical specifications and calculations with confidence and precision.
  • Hands-on experience delivering innovative solutions for water and wastewater engineering projects.
