Job Description

Are you ready to shape the future of water infrastructure? We’re looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our Water Solutions team, with flexible locations including St Albans, Croydon, Basingstoke, Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter, or Plymouth.

You will contribute to delivering multi-billion-pound programmes across the UK water sector, supporting projects from small rural sites to complex infrastructure schemes, in both water and wastewater. These long-term frameworks extend through AMP8 and AMP9.

Key Programmes You’ll Support:
  • Southern Water – £3.7 billion Capital Delivery Programme:
    • Supporting Tier 1 Contractors on non-infrastructure water and wastewater projects.
    • Partnering on infrastructure frameworks for high-quality wastewater projects.
  • South West Water – Engineering Consultancy Services Framework:
    • Multi-Discipline Engineering Design.
  • Wessex Water – Capital Delivery Partner Framework:
    • Design Consultants.

You’ll work across multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative solutions, engaging in projects from inception to delivery, supporting communities and the environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Feasibility studies, design, and construction support.
  • Producing design drawings, mechanical plant specifications, and technical documents.
  • Collaborating with civil, electrical, process, and mechanical engineers.
  • Designing mechanical installations including water/wastewater pumping stations, screens, grit removal, valves, odour control, pipework, etc.
  • Site surveys and liaising with clients, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Creating plant layouts, specifications, datasheets, valve and equipment schedules, and P&IDs.
  • Calculating headloss and pump system analysis.

Qualifications:
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Progress towards Chartered Engineer status (e.g., IMechE).
  • Experience in delivering water and wastewater engineering designs, reports, and calculations.
