What We Are Looking For
We are seeking Mechanical Engineers to join our busy Support Services Engineering team. This role can be based in Telford or Gateshead, with hybrid working over a 4.5-day workweek.
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be involved in designing and integrating equipment at the system and sub-system levels for a range of armoured vehicles operating in land environments.
This demanding role requires close collaboration with Mechanical Engineering Team Leaders, other engineering teams, and subsystem suppliers.
Key attributes for success include significant drive and energy, strong systems engineering skills, and the ability to manage a diverse program within demanding time, cost, and quality constraints.
The candidate must be a team player willing to work with a multi-site engineering team within RBSL and the customer community.
Position Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in analyzing customer requirements and decomposing them into functional system and sub-system design requirements.
- Collaborate with designers to create CAD design schemes, detail designs, and production technical data packs for military armoured vehicles.
- Deliver mechanical design solutions professionally, meeting time, cost, and quality milestones.
- Engage in activities across the engineering lifecycle, including feasibility studies, research, design, development, and post-design services.
- Ensure work complies with company, safety, environmental, contractual, and local standards and procedures.
- Draft, review, and edit technical reports and documents to communicate findings effectively.
- Prepare and submit technical proposals and tenders as directed.
- Maintain accurate design records in accordance with procedures.
- Liaise with MOD establishments, test facilities, subcontractors, and customers as needed.
- Supervise undergraduates or trainees when appropriate.
- Promote the department's capabilities to attract new work.
- Respond to new business requirements as directed by management.
Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent with significant engineering experience.
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status or working towards it.
- Ability to act as Design Authority for mechanical systems when authorized.
- Broad mechanical engineering competence supporting the full engineering lifecycle.
- Proficiency with Microsoft applications, CAD PLM tools like TeamCentre, and SAP data management.
- Skilled in 3D CAD tools, specifically Siemens NX or equivalent.
