Job summary

BAE Systems Digital Intelligence in Chelmsford is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join an interdisciplinary team. You will provide mechanical design and thermal management expertise, developing 3D CAD models and production data packs while analysing structural integrity and heat transfer performance.

You will collaborate with internal/external customers, deliver clear reports, and contribute to manufacturing design-for-manufacture strategies.

Qualifications

• A good degree in mechanical engineering or other engineering sciences.
• Technical background with solid knowledge of mechanical design, structural analysis, design for manufacture and materials.
• Ability to use CAD and Finite Element tools and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work with a high level of self-direction, with some supervision and mentoring of others.
• Knowledge of basic environmental testing methods.
• Heat transfer and thermal management experience would be beneficial.
• Good interpersonal skills and teamwork are important.
• Willingness to learn new skills and techniques.
• Preparation of technical reports, test procedures and process specifications is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide a mechanical engineering design service and promote best practice with BAE SYSTEMS toolsets.
• Innovate to develop new technology and techniques for mechanical design and thermal management.
• Introduce new materials and processes to reduce production costs for future products.
• Liaise with customers to understand and develop requirements and provide bespoke solutions with analysis.
• Report findings clearly in written and verbal form.
