Due to a drive for greater success, this advanced manufacturing business is currently searching for Mechanical Engineer Power and Propulsion Systems to add to their talented, hardworking team in Glasgow (onsite 1-2 days per week) on an initial 12 months contract. Striving for innovation and creativity you can ensure no two days will be the same.

£45-64 per hour inside IR35 / Umbrella per hour

The Role

To provide Mechanical Engineering support to the Power & Propulsion Systems Team engaged in the functional design of the latest Naval Ships.

Contribute to mechanical elements of the design of the River Class Destroyer Power and Propulsion systems, including:

  • Propulsion Motors
  • Diesel Generators
  • Gas Turbine
  • Propulsion Gearbox
  • Shaftline
  • Steering gear and Stabilisers

Provide support to the team in order to assess technical compliance, integration and review of design documentation for the ship's propulsion motors procurement pack.

Implement change to P&P systems away from baseline ship design, assessing impacts on equipment, systems and spatial design.

Support P&P compartment owners in the Zonal Maturity programme.

Skills

To succeed within this role, you'll have experience in a similar position, and you'll ideally have the following skills:

  • Minimal experience in engineering or a defence related industry.
  • 2-3 years of experience in a similar role
  • Has worked in typically one phase of the product lifecycle in the defence/maritime industry or a closely related field.
  • Has an understanding of the product lifecycle.
  • Has worked with limited autonomy and has performed routine analysis in one engineering sub-discipline.
