Job Type: Full-Time

Salary: £40,000 - £52,000 per annum + Holiday, pension, life insurance

Working within our Facility Engineering team, we are looking to appoint an experienced Mechanical Engineer (Plant & Building Services) to deliver professional engineering services across our plant and equipment.

Title: Mechanical Engineer (Plant & Building Services)

Location: Between Reading and Basingstoke, with free onsite parking.

Package: Up to £52,000 + Excellent Benefits (depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience)

Working pattern: AWE operates a 9-day working fortnight.

Responsibilities:
  1. Producing modification packages, managing configured plant changes, and acting as an intelligent client in acquiring or specifying engineering services or products.
  2. Identifying and escalating business risks or opportunities arising from the condition of engineered systems and structures, ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, quality, and reliability.
  3. Taking ownership of engineering issues or opportunities.
  4. Planning, managing, and collaborating to deliver safe, sound solutions to meet project and societal obligations.
  5. Providing advice, guidance, progress reports, and supporting documentation to stakeholders including Senior Leadership, Operations Management, Process Owners, Operators, Maintainers, and Occupants.
  6. Adhering to Company Management System requirements, relevant Technical Standards & Legislation, and business controls.
  7. Applying Maintenance & Reliability Principles and enacting as directed by planning and Failure Modes & Effects Analysis outputs.
  8. Analyzing relevant metrics and contributing to Key Performance Indicators and reporting.
  9. Assisting in Reliability Centred Maintenance planning and performing Root Cause Analysis.
Candidate Experience:

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in:

  • Mechanical building services (HVAC, water systems, etc.) and industrial processes (compressed gases & pneumatics, hydraulics, steam, packaged units, lifting equipment, cryogenics), with good awareness of electrical & control systems.
  • Relevant legislation, supporting ACOP, best practices, and industry standards.
  • Higher hazard or regulated industries (e.g., nuclear, petro-chem, pharma).
  • Experience as an installer or maintainer is beneficial but not essential, as the role is more consultancy-oriented.
  • Holding a Level 4 NQF (HNC) with additional experience or a degree in engineering.
