Job description

Astute People’s Power Team is exclusively working with the South Clyde Energy Centre to recruit a full team of Operations & Maintenance staff. The plant, currently under construction, will process up to 350,000 tonnes of waste annually, generating power for approximately 70,000 homes. This new Power Station is scheduled to commence commercial operation by the end of 2026. This is an excellent opportunity to join during the plant's commissioning, training, and mobilisation phases.

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer / Team Leader to join the Maintenance Team at this state-of-the-art facility. The Mechanical Engineer will oversee daily maintenance planning for Mechanical Technicians, support preventative and corrective maintenance, manage outage and project planning, and coordinate with third-party contractors.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead and manage a team of mechanical maintenance technicians to ensure high standards of maintenance and maximum plant availability.
  • Plan, schedule, and optimize all mechanical maintenance activities safely and efficiently.
  • Supervise and coordinate contractors.
  • Collaborate with the operations team to review plant performance issues and develop solutions.
  • Assist in setting up and developing the site’s Computerised Maintenance Management System.
  • Ensure all activities comply with health, safety, and environmental policies.
  • Manage store inventories efficiently.

Professional Qualifications

  • A recognized qualification in Mechanical Engineering at HNC level or higher; extensive experience may be considered for lower qualifications.
  • Ideally, hold an IOSH or equivalent health and safety qualification, with knowledge of Safe Systems of Work, LOTO, Isolations, SOPs, RAMS.
  • Recognized Mechanical Maintenance Apprenticeship.

Personal Skills

  • At least five years of supervisory or leadership experience, or demonstrated extensive leadership qualities.
  • Strong knowledge of pressure system safety regulations (PSSR), LOLER, PUWER, and related standards.
  • Extensive experience with equipment such as boilers, turbines, pumps, valves, compressors, conveyors, gearboxes.
  • Practical knowledge of process plant and equipment, ideally from industries like Power Generation, Petrochemical, or Oil & Gas.
  • Experience leading technician teams in maintenance practices.
  • Involvement in plant mobilisation and commissioning is advantageous but not mandatory.
