Job summary

James Fisher and Sons plc is seeking a Mechanical Engineer in Westhill with hybrid working. You will provide design solutions and life-cycle support for the JFD product range, from new designs to upgrades in the field.

The role involves calculating designs, DFA/DFM, ANSYS FEA, and coordinating with sales, procurement and production to deliver on time and within budget. Site visits and documentation control are part of the remit.

Qualifications

• Experience in a similar role.
• Ability to generate design calculations.
• Knowledge of DFA (Design for Assembly) and DFM (Design for Manufacturing).
• Experience performing FEA structural analysis using ANSYS.
• Prototype component manufacture and taking designs from concept to validation.
• Good knowledge of manufacturing techniques.
• Good knowledge of gas and fluid systems.
• Knowledge of design standards and industry guidelines such as IMCA.
• Experience working to marine, defence standards and class society rules (LR and DNV).
• Product lifecycle management experience and PLM systems.

Responsibilities

• Assess technical queries and provide engineering design input to new products and support existing product range.
• Liaise with internal departments to ensure the best technical solution.
• Sourcing components and materials and creating part numbers and BOMs.
• Create engineering documentation such as specifications, proposals, assembly instructions, test procedures, certification and reports.
• Check manufacturing drawings and ensure compliance with standards and regulations.
• Ensure solutions are delivered on time and on budget.
• Site visits to other JFD offices and client assets as required.
• Act as technical checker of drawings and documentation.
