Job description

Mechanical Engineer

Location: North West based, ideally around the Wirral area

Salary: Up to £45K per annum, DOE + Benefits!

Contract: Full time, Permanent

As a mechanical engineer, you will be responsible for supporting with projects across several industrial sites in the North West (primarily in the Wirral Area, but not exclusively). This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining systems, machines, and processes to solve practical problems and improve efficiencies. Industries may include FMCG, construction, food production or pharmaceuticals.


Responsibilities
  • Supporting mechanical activities on Blue Chip Client sites
  • Providing mechanical solutions to problems using engineering expertise - Design through to installation
  • Ensuring manufacturing processes comply with industry regulations and safety standards
  • Maintaining manufacturing equipment and machinery predominantly in FMCG and pharmaceutical environments
  • Repair and overhaul of general mechanical items such as motors, pumps, valves, bearings and shafts
  • Mechanical modification of existing equipment in packaging manufacturing environment
  • Ability to interact with site utilities (compressed air, steam, water, etc) and modify piping systems within limits of design
  • General mechanical snagging in a manufacturing line environment
  • Use of FLT, MEWP, Scissor lifts and other plant and equipment (training and licenses preferred, but will be provided)
  • Provide mechanical engineering support to engineering project management team

Skills & Experience
  • Previous experience in similar role
  • Recognised apprenticeship/time served in electrical or mechanical engineering
  • Strong hand tool skills bench fitting
  • Strong understanding of machining processes
  • Strong understanding of engineering material properties
  • Strong understanding of engineering design principles
  • Strong problem solving, Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Continuous Improvement (CI) skills
  • Strong understanding of working safely and risk perception
  • Strong understanding of reading technical drawings (CAD)
  • Experience of working with all types of pumps, motors and rotating equipment
  • Experience of working with manufacturing lines
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience of good engineering practices
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Ability to work well as part of a team
  • Ability to work well independently with a brief from the client or project manager
  • Ability to organise subcomponentry for any assemblies where required
  • Ability to design bespoke solutions for the client or needs of a Project Manager
  • Good communication skills as this will be a client facing role
  • Good at using Microsoft packages at a basic level to write reports and interact with spreadsheets
  • Desired: experience working from MEWPs & Scissor Lifts
  • Desired: experience working in a blue chip factory environment
  • Desired: IOSH certification
