The Vacancy

Locations: Chester/Swansea/Redhill

Binnies UK, part of the RSK Group, are recruiting talented engineers to join our growing Delivery business based throughout the UK. Our teams consult, deliver, and manage Critical Human Infrastructure projects across the Water and Wastewater industries in the UK and overseas. You will have the opportunity to work on a range of challenging engineering projects in a collaborative and supportive team environment.

We are seeking Mechanical Design Engineers to work on both clean water and wastewater schemes, delivering engineering solutions from concept design through to detailed design for construction.

Key responsibilities include:

1. Producing clear and concise engineering deliverables such as general arrangement drawings, equipment sizing calculations, equipment and material selection, enquiry documentation, datasheets, schedules, and reports.
2. Ensuring compliance with in-house procedural & quality systems.
3. Coordinating the development of key multidisciplinary deliverables like P&IDs.
4. Managing design interfaces with other disciplines and integrating mechanical design elements into the overall project design.
5. Working closely with project teams, other engineering disciplines, Project Managers, estimating, site and commissioning teams, CAD, Joint Venture partners, and Clients.
6. Undertaking technical bid assessments, subcontractor design reviews, and providing technical support to site teams.
7. Providing guidance and direction to team members on the same project and discipline.
8. Typically undertaking supervisor responsibilities for junior engineers, including performance management and supporting professional development.
9. Managing assigned budgets, schedules, and quality requirements.

Essential Requirements

The role is suitable for technically strong, commercially aware candidates with a background in Mechanical Engineering in the water industry or closely related fields. You should possess and demonstrate the following qualifications, skills, and knowledge:

• A good working knowledge of clean water and/or wastewater engineering design principles, equipment selection criteria, and treatment processes.
• Experience with standards and practices, CDM, procurement processes, and document control.
• Degree qualification in mechanical engineering or a closely related course.
• Enthusiastic, adaptable, and driven to provide efficient engineering solutions.
• Self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision within multidisciplinary teams to deliver on time and within budget.
• Ability to recognize and manage change.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with high computer literacy.
