Job summary

ManpowerGroup UK is seeking a Mechanical Engineer - Military to join a forward-thinking team in the UK. You will maintain military and commercial MHE and Plant vehicles, aiming to maximise availability and reduce faults through analysis and improvement.

The role involves designing, documenting, supporting full project lifecycles, and collaborating across teams to ensure manufacturability and compliance. A permanent contract may be offered for sponsored reservists.

Qualifications

  • Level 3 Apprenticeship (C&G or NVQ Technical Certificate) in a related engineering function such as Vehicle Systems Maintenance or automotive engineering.
  • Significant experience in a related engineering function (Car Mechanic, HGV Fitter, Plant Fitter) or a formal apprenticeship qualification.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and improve mechanical systems and components to meet performance, safety, and quality requirements.
  • Produce engineering documentation including calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
  • Support the full project lifecycle from concept through commissioning and optimisation.
  • Carry out fault-finding and root-cause analysis on mechanical systems, recommending corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs are manufacturable, maintainable, and compliant.
  • Review and interpret technical data, standards, and customer requirements to inform design decisions.
  • Maintain accurate records of engineering work and ensure documentation is up to date.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including process optimisation and lessons learned.

You will be maintaining a fleet of military and commercial MHE and Plant vehicles and other associated ancillaries, both within their engineering capabilities.

Maximise the operational availability of military and commercial MHE, Plant vehicles and other associated ancillaries by investigating, understanding, and eliminating failed/fault operation of those products.

Job Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and improve mechanical systems and components to meet performance, safety, and quality requirements.

  • Support the full project lifecycle, from initial concept and feasibility through to installation, testing, and commissioning.
  • Carry out fault-finding and root-cause analysis on mechanical systems, recommending effective corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs are manufacturable, maintainable, and compliant.
  • Review and interpret technical data, standards, and customer requirements to inform design decisions.
  • Maintain accurate records of engineering work and ensure documentation is kept up to date.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including process optimisation and lessons learned.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Level 3 Apprenticeship (C&G or NVQ Technical Certificate and Functional Skills) in a related engineering function i.e.Vehicle Systems Maintenance/Vehicle Electrics/Electronics/Vehicle Diagnostics/Automotive Engineering/Hydraulics/Power Train
  • Significant experience working in a related engineering function, Car Mechanic, HGV Fitter, Plant Fitter or a formal apprenticeship qualification
