Job summary

Manpower Group (UK) in Stafford is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support a Defence Equipment fleet. You will design, install, and maintain Mitre systems, performing fault finding and diagnostics while adhering to safety and quality standards.

This role focuses on proactive maintenance of military and commercial MHE and Plant vehicles, coordinating with site teams and delivering reliable results on time.

Qualifications

• HGV Category C driving license is required.
• Level 3 Apprenticeship in Vehicle Systems or related engineering field.
• Proven experience as Car Mechanic, HGV Fitter or Plant Fitter.

Responsibilities

• Design, install, and maintain Mitre systems per project specs.
• Perform fault-finding and diagnostics with corrective actions.
• Complete work to specifications, timelines and quality standards.
• Assist commissioning, including testing, verification, and documentation.
• Maintain accurate maintenance and inspection records.
• Coordinate with site teams to minimise disruption.
• Adhere to health and safety procedures at all times.

Mechanical Engineer - Stafford (Military)

You will be joining the Defence Equipment sector proactively maintaining a fleet of military and commercial MHE and Plant vehicles and other associated ancillaries, both within their engineering capabilities.

Maximise the operational availability of military and commercial MHE, Plant vehicles and other associated ancillaries by investigating, understanding, and eliminating failed/fault operation of those products.

Job Responsibilities

• Design, install, and maintain Mitre systems in line with project requirements and site standards.
• Carry out fault-finding and diagnostics to identify issues and implement effective corrective actions.
• Ensure all work is completed to the required specifications, quality standards, and agreed timelines.
• Support commissioning activities, including testing, verification, and documentation of outcomes.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance, inspections, and any remedial work completed.
• Work closely with site teams and stakeholders to coordinate activities and minimise disruption.
• Follow all relevant health and safety procedures, ensuring safe working practices at all times.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• HGV Category C essential
• Level 3 Apprenticeship (C&G or NVQ Technical Certificate and Functional Skills) in a related engineering function i.e. Vehicle Systems Maintenance/Vehicle Electrics/Electronics/Vehicle Diagnostics/Automotive Engineering/Hydraulics/Power Train
• Significant experience working in a related engineering function, Car Mechanic, HGV Fitter, Plant Fitter or a formal apprenticeship qualification.
