Job summary

Senior Mechanical Engineer at Mott MacDonald Bentley leads mechanical design for water and wastewater schemes from feasibility to handover, driving quality and safety across all project phases.

You will work with Electrical, Civil, Geotech and Process designers to ensure on-programme delivery within budget and quality. You’ll mentor engineers and collaborate with commercial, operations and construction teams to deliver safe, practical solutions.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) with a relevant engineering institution.
  • Experience delivering high-quality outputs in line with design, quality and safety standards.
  • Willingness to travel to sites across your operational region.

  • Lead the mechanical design of water and wastewater infrastructure and related projects through design, construction, commissioning and handover.
  • Coordinate with Electrical, Civil, Geotech and Process designers and ensure designs meet programme, budget and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with commercial, operational and construction teams to develop safe, practical solutions throughout design, construction and beyond.
  • Engage with the client to manage relationships and support their aims with a one-team approach.
  • Support the development of the mechanical engineering team, mentoring engineers and identifying resource needs for projects.

Job description

Lead the mechanical design of water and wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects through the outline and detailed design, construction, commissioning, and handover, including, but not limited to, P&IDs, valve schedules, pump calculations, defining safe access and lifting arrangements, above ground pipework layouts, etc.

Coordinate with the project team comprising of Electrical, Civil, Geotech and Process designers and ensure designs are completed on programme, within budget, and to the quality defined by framework specifications.

Working closely and collaboratively with the commercial, operational and construction teams to develop efficient, practical and safe solutions throughout design stages, construction and beyond.

Positively engage with the client, managing relationships and adopting a one-team approach to supporting them in achieving their aims.

Supporting the development of the mechanical engineering team, coaching and mentoring engineers to develop their skill set and identifying the correct resource for the projects.

Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field.

Chartership (CEng) with a relevant Engineering Institution.

Experience of successfully delivering high quality outputs in accordance with design, quality and safety standards.

A valid driving licence and willingness to travel to sites across your operational region.

This is a Mott MacDonald Bentley role, employed by Mott MacDonald. Mott MacDonald Bentley is a joint venture business, established in 1999 between civil engineering contractor JN Bentley and global management consultancy, Mott MacDonald.

Mott MacDonald Bentley offers fully integrated design and build services to its clients, combining the contracting expertise of JN Bentley and the design specialisms of Mott MacDonald.

This role is employed by Mott MacDonald but will involve working across the joint venture business, both with Mott MacDonald and JN Bentley colleagues.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer you will contribute to projects that significantly impact our environment and communities. Working primarily in the UK water market, MMB provides the feasibility, design, construction, and commissioning services needed to keep water flowing and wastewater treated. You'll work on projects that make a real difference to our environment and our communities by enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of water and wastewater treatment systems.

You will play a pivotal role in shaping the mechanical functions throughout the lifecycle of various projects. From concept design to commissioning, you will ensure that all mechanical aspects are meticulously considered and integrated.
