Job summary

P+S Recruitment are seeking a Mechanical Engineer for a full-time, permanent role based in Norwich. The successful candidate will design, develop and modify mechanical assemblies and components, using 2D/3D CAD and providing cost estimates where required.

You will check drawings, perform DFMEA risk assessments, support manufacturing with new tooling, and collaborate with suppliers and customers while maintaining compliance with quality and health and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience in an engineering role with industrial machinery.
  • Proficient in 2D/3D CAD and drafting documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Design, redesign, layout and detail assemblies and components.
  • Check drawings for form, fit, tolerance and conformance to standards.
  • Develop improvements to equipment and processes, including cost estimates.
  • Support manufacturing with new or modified products and train teams.
  • Manage workload in line with priorities.
  • Troubleshoot machine issues and propose solutions.
  • Carry out risk assessments and DFMEA.
  • Collaborate with internal departments, suppliers and customers.
  • Conduct prototype builds and in-house tests, draft reports.
  • Comply with HR, quality, safety and environmental policies.

Job description

P+S Recruitment are pleased to be working on behalf of our clients, who are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join their team based in Norwich on a full-time, permanent basis.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Design, redesign, layout and detail as necessary assemblies and components.
  • Check drawings for form, fit, function, tolerance and conformance to sound design practice and company documentation standards.
  • Design and develop improvements to existing equipment and processes including the preparation of cost estimates and engineering change orders when required.
  • Support the implementation of new or modified products, processes, and equipment in manufacturing; supports the training of the manufacturing and service teams.
  • Manage individual workload in line with the company priorities.
  • Troubleshoot and fault find machine issues to identify component or design failures, proposing solutions when required.
  • Carry out or participate in machine risk assessments and DFMEA.
  • Liaise independently with other internal departments, external suppliers and customers to identify and resolve issues and potential improvements.
  • Conduct prototype build and in-house tests for new or redesigned products, drafting reports of findings.
  • Comply with all necessary general company administrative requirements.
  • Abide by all statutory requirements and adhere to and promote all company policies and procedures including (but not limited to) those relating to HR, quality, food safety, environmental, and health and safety.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the line manager.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or an equivalent combination of work and experience.
  • Demonstrable experience working in an engineering role
  • Development and troubleshooting on industrial machinery.
  • Proficient with 2D and 3D CAD, drafting design documentation.
  • Perform a range of standard engineering calculations.
  • Able to interpret and apply applicable regulations and standards.
  • Proficient with MS Office or similar applications, including spread sheets, word processing, email and presentations.
Person Specification:
  • Excellent fault finding and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent organisational, interpersonal, and oral and written communications skills.
  • Team player.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Pays close attention to detail.
  • To be able to adapt to new tasks or responsibilities as required.
  • Able to travel with periodic evenings and overnight assignments, including domestic and international locations (approximately 10%).
Working Hours:
  • 38 Hours per week.
  • Monday - Friday.
  • Core hours 08:00-16:30/09:00-17:30, depending on needs of the business
