We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team delivering projects across the water sector.
This role is ideal for an engineer with a solid foundation in mechanical design who is looking to develop their technical expertise, take ownership of design packages and progress toward chartership.
You will be involved in the full design lifecycle — from developing solutions and producing calculations through to coordinating with suppliers and supporting project delivery.
The Role
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will support the delivery of engineering design across a range of water and wastewater projects.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Producing design deliverables that meet safety, quality and regulatory requirements
- Preparing mechanical design calculations, drawings and technical documentation
- Identifying and developing efficient and practical design solutions
- Directing and supporting CAD technicians
- Preparing scopes for and reviewing outputs from subcontract M&E design teams
- Liaising with suppliers and manufacturers, including preparing technical specifications and reviewing tender submissions
- Producing design investigations, reports and specifications
- Ensuring designs comply with relevant technical standards, professional guidance and company procedures
- Ensuring project design changes are properly implemented and recorded
- Estimating design hours and supporting project planning
- Attending and contributing to design meetings and presentations
About You
If you’re a motivated mechanical engineer with experience in the water sector and a desire to develop your technical and professional capability, we’d love to hear from you.
It’s essential that you have:
- Around 5 years’ mechanical design experience within the UK water industry
- Degree, HND or significant practical experience from technician level progression
- Strong IT and digital design capability
- Registered with a professional engineering institution and working towards chartership
It’s desirable for you to have:
- Chartered Engineer status
- Experience in hydraulic design
- Experience working on UMON schemes
- Experience across clean water and wastewater, infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects
- Awareness of construction methods and materials
- Knowledge of engineering drawing practices
Your key skills should include:
- Strong mechanical engineering design capability

Location & Working Arrangements
Our team is ideally based from our Manchester office, and we encourage regular collaboration in person where possible. However, we recognise that flexibility is important and are open to hybrid or remote working arrangements for the right candidate.
Our office is located close to Old Trafford, with free on-site parking and strong transport links including bus and tram stops within a 10-minute walk. The surrounding area offers a range of cafés, pubs, restaurants and shops.
