Position Summary: We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team at the University of Liverpool.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Operate and monitor plumbing systems, ensuring safe and efficient operation.
  2. Conduct regular inspections of plumbing equipment to assess performance and identify issues.
  3. Monitor and adjust controls, such as water level, pressure, and temperature, to maintain optimal conditions.
  4. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and industry standards.
  5. Develop and implement preventive maintenance plans.
  6. Perform routine maintenance tasks, including cleaning, lubricating, and replacing parts.
  7. Diagnose and troubleshoot boiler malfunctions and breakdowns.
  8. Coordinate with external vendors for specialized repairs and equipment installations.
  9. Analyze system data to identify opportunities for energy efficiency improvements.
  10. Recommend and implement measures to optimize performance and reduce energy consumption.
  11. Install and upgrade controls, instrumentation, and monitoring systems as required.
  12. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs.
  13. Generate reports on performance, maintenance schedules, and energy consumption.
  14. Collaborate with facility management teams to ensure effective communication and timely reporting.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience as a Mechanical Engineer / Plumber or a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of plumbing maintenance and repair techniques.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulations and standards (e.g., Health and Safety Executive, Pressure Systems Safety Regulations).
  • Excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Proficiency in interpreting and analyzing data and performance metrics.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively prioritize tasks.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with team members and clients.

Certifications:

  • Relevant certifications in Plumbing or Mechanical operations and maintenance (City and Guilds Level 3, BOAS is preferred).
