As a Mechanical Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll provide high-quality engineering support within the areas of fuel route operations and/or plant systems. You will work collaboratively with internal team members, the client, and external contract partners to ensure that all deliverables meet stakeholder expectations and project requirements. This role plays a key part in maintaining operational excellence and ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant performance of engineering systems.

Day-to-day, you’ll take a hands-on approach to technical fault finding and problem-solving across plant systems, using your solid engineering background to identify issues and drive effective solutions. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on tackling complex challenges, enjoys working in a dynamic environment, and is motivated to make a tangible impact through their technical expertise.

The role

  • Identify, implement, and ensure compliance with relevant safety, environmental, and quality standards, as well as company procedures, policies, and site-specific legislative requirements.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and site surveys, working closely with station engineering staff to define and scope required works.
  • Create and update engineering documentation, including mechanical drawings, quality plans, and installation method statements. You’ll also be responsible for reviewing and approving contractor Work Risk Assessment and Method Statements (WRAMS).
  • Provide leadership and supervision to contractors and other working parties, ensuring work is carried out safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
  • Promote a strong Health and Safety culture by leading by example, offering coaching where needed, and developing comprehensive Task Risk Assessments.
  • Deliver complete turnkey work packages, including documentation, installation supervision, testing, and final sign-off to the client upon completion.

This role is full time, 37 hours per week and is based on site at Heysham 2 Power Station in Morcambe. Flexibility with paid extended working hours (and weekends) will be required to fit in with site process (mainly during installation phases) sometimes at short notice.
