Mechanical Engineer

About the Company

JFD Global is the world leading underwater capability provider, serving the commercial and defence markets with innovative diving, submarine and hyperbaric rescue, technical solutions and services.

The Role

To provide engineering design solutions and through-life engineering support to the JFD product range. Workload can vary from designing new products to meet client or internal specifications to supporting existing clients with upgrades or modifications in the field.

Principle Accountabilities

  1. Assess technical queries and provide engineering design input for new products and support existing product ranges.
  2. Liaise with internal departments such as sales, procurement, and production to ensure optimal technical solutions.
  3. Sourcing components and materials, creating part numbers, and bills of materials.
  4. Creating engineering documentation including specifications, proposals, assembly instructions, test procedures, and certification reports.
  5. Checking detailed manufacturing drawings for accuracy, standards compliance, and adherence to regulations.
  6. Ensuring engineering solutions are delivered on time and within budget.
  7. Conducting site visits to JFD offices and client assets as required.
  8. Serving as the technical checker for drawings and documentation supporting the mechanical engineering role.

Qualifications and Experience

  1. Experience in a similar engineering role.
  2. Proficiency in generating design calculations.
  3. Experience with DFA (Design for Assembly) and DFM (Design for Manufacturing).
  4. Experience performing FEA structural analysis using software like ANSYS.
  5. Prototype manufacturing and taking designs from concept to validation.
  6. Good knowledge of manufacturing techniques.
  7. Understanding of gas and fluid systems.
  8. Knowledge of design standards and industry guidelines such as IMCA.
  9. Experience working to marine and defence standards, including LR and DNV class rules.
  10. Product design experience is advantageous.
  11. Experience with Product Lifecycle Management systems.
  12. Previous diving equipment design experience is a plus.
  13. A mechanical engineering degree or equivalent experience.
