Overview

Role: Mechanical Engineer

Contract: Outside IR35

RC Fornax, a veteran-owned engineering consultancy operating within the aerospace and defence sectors, is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to provide engineering support on the design, review, and assurance of structural components within a maritime platform management systems programme. The role will focus on reviewing schematics, diagrams, and CAD models, primarily relating to structures, sheet metal, and panels, and ensuring design artefacts are suitable for production.

Responsibilities
  • Provide mechanical engineering support during the production stage of the lifecycle, ensuring design artefacts meet required standards ahead of manufacturing.
  • Review schematics, diagrams, and structural component designs, focusing on sheet metal, panels, and associated structures.
  • Assess design proposals and propose modifications where required, collaborating closely with CAD engineers.
  • Review changes made by CAD engineers and confirm suitability for production and system integration.
  • Provide advice and assurance on design modifications at both component and system level.
  • Contribute to the integrity and quality of mechanical designs, ensuring compliance with programme requirements and wider maritime platform standards.
Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Engineer, ideally within defence, maritime, or aerospace sectors.
  • Strong proficiency in Creo (or similar CAD tools).
  • Experience with structural components, sheet metal, and panel design.
  • Ability to review and interpret engineering schematics and diagrams.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with CAD engineers and wider stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of production-stage engineering and assurance processes.

Due to the nature of the project, the successful candidate must hold active Security Check (SC) Clearance or be eligible to obtain SC Clearance at the point of onboarding.
