About the Opportunity

We are currently recruiting Mechanical Engineers at varying levels to join our Fusion team, which has recently won several important projects and has a host of exciting new opportunities in research, engineering, operations and decommissioning.

As one of the newest departments in Amentum, we are regularly involved in delivering on exciting bids and projects with several different fusion clients. The ideal candidate should have an engineering background, with a demonstrable track record of contributing to or leading projects effectively.

This role will be based in our Birchwood, Harwell or Culham office, with potential for periodic visits to client sites as projects require.

Amentum supports customers in energy generation, new build, decommissioning and defence sectors. We are involved in innovative projects like ITER, the world’s largest fusion experiment.

This role offers the opportunity to work on a variety of projects with diverse teams, collaborating closely with clients to achieve outstanding results in a stimulating environment.

The Fusion Mechanical Engineer will contribute to the delivery of fusion projects in the UK and internationally, including:

  • Contributing within or overseeing project teams in mechanical work, from definition to execution of engineering work packages for innovative client solutions.
  • Delivering high-quality technical documentation such as calculations, specifications, datasheets, and reports.
  • Supporting decision-making processes with clear solutions.
  • Collaborating effectively with team members.
  • Considering conventional and nuclear safety in all work.
  • Presenting engineering solutions to clients and during design reviews.
  • Liaising with manufacturing teams and suppliers, defining requirements, and ensuring delivery to specifications.
  • Assessing and reviewing trials to optimize solutions for clients.
  • Ensuring mechanical, performance, and safety requirements are met, including verification and validation activities.
