Job description

Westlakes Recruit are currently recruiting for Mechanical Engineers with a background in a highly regulated sector to be engaged on a permanent basis in the South (Bristol) with hybrid working.


As a Mechanical Engineer you will:

  1. Support the creation of optimal design solutions to address client requirements.
  2. Produce substantiation calculations to demonstrate designs will perform as required.
  3. Author and update technical documents.
  4. Manage your projects' delivery against Time, Cost and Quality requirements.
  5. Support our QA process through review or checking colleagues' work.
  6. Present your work to the client at formal reviews.
  7. Work within project teams, these may include placements at clients' sites.

What you can bring:

  1. Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  2. Chartership with a relevant engineering institution or be progressing towards obtaining this.
  3. Sound understanding of mechanical engineering principles and their application to varied projects and domains.
  4. Creativity and experience across the design lifecycle including undertaking requirements capture, concept generation, development and down-selection.
  5. Familiarity with working to design codes and industry standards appropriate for a safety critical industry.
  6. Experience in the production of design documentation, including calculations, reports, specifications and requirements capture documents. Computer aided design experience.
  7. Experience of participating and presenting material at formal design reviews.
  8. Experience of working in teams to deliver mechanical engineering design projects. Experience working in the nuclear or other safety critical industry.
