We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Project and SME Engineer to join the team at our Linford Block Plant, located near Stanford-le-Hope in Essex. This role is accessible from Barking, Dagenham, East Ham, Rainham, Plaistow, Woolwich, Abbey Wood, Greenwich, Belvedere, Poplar, Stratford, Forest Gate, Deptford, Welling, Sidcup, Erith, Bexley, Bexley Heath, Dartford, Hornchurch, South Ockenden, or surrounding areas.

Our Linford Plant manufactures sustainable, tough, and energy-efficient aerated blocks used in homes and workplaces, making our products a part of everyday life.

Role Responsibilities

As our Mechanical Project and SME Engineer, your key responsibilities include executing maintenance strategies to ensure mechanical equipment operates at peak efficiency, supporting the vision to implement World Class Maintenance at Linford. You will collaborate with production and maintenance teams to troubleshoot, improve systems, and support project engineering activities.

Your responsibilities (not exhaustive) include:

  1. Leading and owning the 1-year rolling and 3-5 year improvement plans for assets.
  2. Implementing Written Schemes of Examination, assessing equipment condition, and reporting compliance status.
  3. Recommending repairs and advising on restoring equipment to 'fit for purpose'.
  4. Owning and leading risk-based assessments for mechanical systems.
  5. Providing technical input for projects and modifications to ensure legal and business compliance.
  6. Managing change practices for modifications, upgrades, or project work.
  7. Conducting routine maintenance and collaborating on system improvements.
  8. Managing engineering operations, delivering CAPEX projects, and understanding CDM regulations.
  9. Promoting maintenance best practices and ensuring compliance with procedures.
  10. Assisting in achieving departmental budget targets through efficient resource use.
  11. Training and developing engineers, fitters, and apprentices in mechanical systems.
  12. Ensuring health and safety regulations are followed, aiming for zero harm.
  13. Reviewing plant performance, identifying gaps, and proposing improvements.
  14. Monitoring condition predictors like NDT or condition monitoring systems.
  15. Evaluating and updating preventive maintenance plans.
  16. Leading root cause analysis for plant failures.
The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will support our development strategies, with experience in hydraulic, pneumatics, gears, bearings, compressed air, and plant maintenance—preferably in manufacturing, repair, or inspection contexts.

Qualifications / Requirements / Capabilities:

  1. BEng or MEng in a related discipline, or QBE (Qualified by Experience).
  2. Strong technical knowledge of mechanical equipment and heavy industrial plant.
  3. Experience with preventive, predictive, and systematic maintenance, including databases, CMMS, and project software.
