About the role:
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical and Electrical Technician to join our team at Slough Sewage Treatment Works, SL1 9EB.
As the successful candidate, you will ensure that all equipment at our sewage treatment works is running safely and efficiently using proactive and reactive maintenance methods. You will inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair electrical and mechanical plant equipment.
Working within the maintenance team, you will follow robust planned maintenance, participate in minor installation projects, electrical fault finding, and emergency breakdown repairs to ensure our plant operates year-round.
What you’ll be doing as the Mechanical & Electrical Technician
- Carrying out scheduled planned maintenance work on mechanical and electrical equipment in compliance with company procedures to minimise plant breakdowns.
- Investigating plant failures and carrying out repairs efficiently to avoid process interruptions, including diagnosing complex faults and repairs during incidents.
- Providing technical advice, referring to up-to-date technical knowledge, and supporting technical trainees if required.
- Working on equipment such as pumps, control gear, 3-phase motors, starters, electronic control systems like VSDs, automatic valves, flow, level and pressure measurement devices, PLCs, variable speed drives, chemical handling and dosing equipment.
- Participating in a standby rota following relevant training.
Base Location: Slough – SL1 9EB
Working Pattern: 38 hours, Monday-Friday, 7:30 am – 3:36 pm, plus standby and overtime opportunities, increasing earnings by up to £10,000 annually.
All PPE and tools are provided.
What you should bring to the role
- Significant experience in electrical systems, ideally as a time-served apprentice, with a multi-skilled capacity.
- Electrical apprenticeship, ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ, or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering, with upskill qualification in mechanical NVQ2/3.
- Mechanical qualification to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify, or repair mechanical and electrical plant equipment safely and efficiently.
- Willingness to develop dual-skilled capabilities if currently specialized in either mechanical or electrical work.
- Knowledge of health and safety issues.
- Physical fitness for work in confined spaces, with training provided.
- A valid driving license; all necessary equipment provided.
