Job description

About the role:
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical and Electrical Technician to join our team at Slough Sewage Treatment Works, SL1 9EB.

As the successful candidate, you will ensure that all equipment at our sewage treatment works is operating safely and efficiently through proactive and reactive maintenance. Your responsibilities will include inspecting, maintaining, fault diagnosing, testing, installing, modifying, or repairing electrical and mechanical plant equipment.

Working within the maintenance team, you will follow robust planned maintenance schedules, participate in minor installation projects, perform electrical fault finding, and conduct emergency breakdown repairs to ensure continuous plant operation.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Carrying out scheduled planned maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment to minimize plant breakdowns.
  2. Investigating plant failures and performing repairs promptly to prevent process interruptions.
  3. Providing technical advice and supporting training for technical trainees as needed.
  4. Working on equipment such as pumps, control gear, 3-phase motors, starters, electronic control systems like VSDs, automatic valves, flow, level, and pressure measurement devices, programmable logic controllers, chemical handling, and dosing equipment.
  5. Participating in standby rota duties following appropriate training.

Location and Working Pattern:

  • Base Location: Slough – SL1 9EB
  • Working hours: 38 hours/week, Monday-Friday, 7:30 am – 3:36 pm, with standby and overtime opportunities that can increase earnings by approximately £8,000-£10,000 annually.

All PPE and tools are provided.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Significant experience in electrical systems, ideally with a background in a multi-skilled capacity.
  • Electrical apprenticeship, ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ, or C&G Level 3 in mechanical engineering with mechanical NVQ2/3 qualification.
  • Mechanical upskilling to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify, or repair mechanical and electrical plant equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards and physical fitness to work in confined spaces.
  • Valid driving license and provision of necessary equipment such as vehicle and tools.
