Job description

We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical & Electrical Technician to join our Waste Operations team at Farnham STW.

As the successful candidate, you will work in a multi-disciplinary team, responsible for scheduled, unscheduled, and emergency maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment. Your role is to ensure compliance with company procedures and minimize plant breakdowns.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to Thames Water by performing operational tasks, testing, routine checks, maintenance, and problem-solving to meet time, cost, and quality standards. You will be involved in planned and preventive maintenance to support plant operations.

Responsibilities include:
  • Investigating plant failures and repairing them efficiently to prevent process interruptions, including diagnosing complex faults during incidents.
  • Providing technical advice, referencing up-to-date knowledge, and supporting technical trainees if needed.
  • Working on equipment such as motors, gearboxes, conveyors, pumps, control gear, VSDs, valves, measurement instruments, PLCs, and chemical dosing equipment. Completing statutory checks as required.
  • Adhering to all health and safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Being open to training on the water treatment process.
Location and Working Pattern:

Base: Farnham STW – Monkton Lane, GU9 9ND.
Hours: 38 hours/week, Monday-Friday, 7:30-15:36, with standby, overtime, and potential earnings increase.

Compensation and Benefits:

Starting salary: £8,000-£10,000 upon completing essential training.
Additional benefits include PPE, tools, fuel card, provisional company van, and overtime opportunities.

Candidate Requirements:
  • Time-served apprentice or significant experience in electrical systems, with a background in a multi-skilled capacity.
  • Qualifications: ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ or C&G Level 3 in mechanical engineering, with mechanical NVQ2/3 and 18th Edition.
  • Mechanical upskilling to inspect, maintain, diagnose faults, and repair plant equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Knowledge of health and safety issues.
  • Valid driving license.
