Job description

We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical and Electrical Technician. The successful candidate will work at sites across Southwest London, based at Waddon Water Treatment Works in Croydon. The area covers water treatment works, boreholes, reservoirs, water towers and pumping stations across SW London, ranging from Epsom to Battersea and Addington. The standby rota covers the whole of South and Southeast London.

If successful, you will ensure that all equipment at our sites is running safely and efficiently using proactive and reactive maintenance methods. You will inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair electrical and mechanical plant equipment.

Working within the maintenance team, you will follow robust planned maintenance, getting involved in minor installation projects, electrical fault finding, and emergency breakdown repairs to ensure our plant operates all year round.

What you’ll be doing as the Mechanical & Electrical Technician

  • Carrying out scheduled planned maintenance work on mechanical and electrical equipment in compliance with company procedures to minimise plant breakdowns.
  • You will investigate plant failures and carry out repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to avoid interruptions to the process. This may involve investigating and diagnosing complex faults and carrying out repairs during incidents.
  • You will be expected to provide technical advice, referring to up-to-date technical knowledge, and provide training or support for technical trainees if required.
  • Examples of equipment that you will be working on will be various pumps and associated control gear, 3-phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems such as variable speed drives, automatic valves, flow, level and pressure measurement, programmable logic controllers, chemical handling and dosing equipment.
  • Participate in a standby rota following the relevant training.
Base Location: Waddon - CR0 4HY
Working Pattern 38 Hours Monday- Friday 7:30 am – 15:36 pm plus standby & overtime opportunity
All PPE, tools and the company vanare provided.

What you should bring to the role
  • You should have significant experience working on mechanical plant and electrical systems, ideally including pumps, actuated valves and electronic control systemssuch as VSDs.
  • Previous experience in an electrical apprenticeship, ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ, or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering with an upskill qualification in mechanical NVQ2/3 is crucial.
  • Experience in inspecting, maintaining, fault diagnosis, testing, installing, modifying or repairing mechanical and electrical plant equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are crucial.
  • The work will require physical fitness; the role will involve working in chambers where access is restricted.
  • A valid driving licence is essential, and all necessary equipment, such as a vehicle and tools, are provided.

  • Must be prepared to be trained in safety procedures.
  • Knowledge and awareness of health and safety standards.
