We are currently recruiting skilled technicians with experience working on Mechanical, Electrical or Instrumentation, Control & Automation industrial plant equipment.

Working in multi-disciplinary teams that are responsible for carrying out scheduled, unscheduled and emergency maintenance work on mechanical and electrical equipment.

This is an excellent opportunity to make a real difference to Thames Water's environmental impact and you will be actively helping to reduce pollution from our sites and networks.

What you’ll be doing as a Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation Technician

• Investigate plant failures and perform repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to avoid interruptions to the process. This may involve investigating and diagnosing complex faults and performing repairs during incidents.
• Installing, modifying, and commissioning new plant equipment, and diagnosing and repairing faults in systems and plants.
• Provide technical advice, refer to up-to-date technical knowledge, and provide training or support for technical trainees if required.
• Examples of equipment that you will be working on include motors, gearboxes, screw/chains conveyors & centrifuges, various pumps, and associated control gear, 3-phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems such as VSD, automatic valves, flow, level and pressure measurement, programmable logic controllers, variable speed drives and controls, chemical handling, and dosing equipment.
• Always working safely and complying with all Health and Safety guidance and procedures.

Base locations can be Esher, Camberley or Maple Lodge (near Rickmansworth).

Working Pattern: 38 Hours, Monday- Friday 7:30 am – 3:36 p.m. plus standby and overtime opportunities increasing earnings by a potential £8,000-£10,000 per annum upon completing essential company training.

All PPE, tools, van and fuel card are provided.

What you should bring to the role

• You should be a time-served apprentice with significant experience in electrical systems working in a “true multi-skilled” capacity. Previous experience in an electrical apprenticeship, ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering is crucial.
• For the Instrumentation roles, you will have experience with PLCs and SCADA systems, communication network systems, instrumentation including flow, level, pressure, etc.
• Experience with variable speed drives (VSDs) and other starting methods for motors/pumps.
• Ideally, you will be qualified to HNC level or otherwise will have City and Guilds Part 2 or NVQ level 3 (or equivalent) in an instrumentation, control and automation discipline.
• Experience in maintaining, testing, installing and fault diagnosis on electrical plant equipment safely and efficiently.
• Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are crucial.
• The work requires you to work in confined spaces with the successful completion of appropriate training.
• A valid driving licence is essential and all necessary equipment, such as vehicles and tools, is provided.

• Standby rota payments & Overtime opportunities can increase this earning potential by up to a further £8,000-£10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training.
