Position Overview

Scottish Canals is seeking a degree-qualified Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) Engineer to join our Engineering team in Grangemouth or Glasgow. The role involves providing technical support in electrical, controls/PLC’s, mechanical, and hydraulics disciplines to operations and estates functions.

Key Details
  • Permanent position with a starting salary of £46,068 per annum.
  • Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week, with occasional standby.
  • Benefits include flexible working, 28 days annual leave plus 10 public holidays, enhanced sick pay, shopping vouchers, and a contributory pension scheme.
Main Responsibilities
  1. Provide M&E engineering support across the organization, ensuring work is completed on time and within budget.
  2. Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, heritage, and customer service standards.
  3. Conduct inspections, assessments, and reporting on asset condition and serviceability.
  4. Assist in planning and executing projects related to M&E systems, including maintenance and conservation.
  5. Manage projects through tendering, contracting, and in-house teams.
  6. Supervise external work, maintain assets, and ensure statutory compliance.
  7. Support other departments with M&E expertise and asset management systems.
  8. Participate in standby duties as required.
  9. Contribute to recruitment, team development, and operational planning.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Membership of a professional body such as IET or IEE.
  • Health and Safety qualification (e.g., NEBOSH, SMSTS).
  • Knowledge of NEC contracts and project management.
  • Leadership and project management experience.
  • Heritage and environmental awareness.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and asset management systems.
  • Valid driving license.
