Job summary

John G Mackintosh in Edinburgh is seeking an experienced M&E Design Manager to lead the mechanical and electrical design across major schemes. You will ensure fully coordinated, technically compliant designs are delivered on programme and to client expectations.

Working with the Pre-Construction, Design and Delivery teams, you will manage design from tender through to completion, coordinating with consultants and subcontractors, with regular travel to project sites and meetings.

Role Overview

JGM are looking to appoint an M&E Design Manager to support the successful delivery of major schemes across a range of sectors. This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established business with an outstanding reputation for delivering complex projects.

Working closely with the Pre-Construction, Design and Delivery teams, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating the Mechanical & Electrical design process from tender stage through to project completion. You will play a key role in ensuring building services designs are fully coordinated, technically compliant and delivered in line with programme requirements.

The position offers a mixture of office, site and client-facing responsibilities, with regular travel to projects to meet construction teams, consultants and specialist M&E subcontractors.

The M&E Design Manager is responsible for working in accordance with company Health, Safety and Environmental policies and supporting a positive safety culture.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the M&E design process throughout pre-construction and live project delivery.
• Manage the design responsibilities and deliverables of in-house D&B projects and CDP elements, with a strong focus on change control and the commissioning and handover process.
• Coordinate Mechanical and Electrical design information between consultants, subcontractors and internal teams.
• Review technical submissions, drawings and specifications to ensure buildability and compliance.
• Chair and attend design coordination meetings with clients, consultants and subcontractors.
• Work closely with site-based teams to resolve design and coordination issues during construction.
• Monitor design programmes to ensure information is released in line with project requirements.
• Identify and manage design risks while driving value engineering opportunities.
• Ensure M&E installations are fully coordinated with architectural and structural elements.
• Previous experience as an M&E Design Manager, Building Services Manager or Senior M&E Coordinator.
• Strong Mechanical and Electrical building services knowledge gained within a Main Contractor or Building Services Contractor environment.
• Excellent coordination, communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to travel regularly to project sites.
