Mechanical Draughtsperson

Orion is working with a market leader in the Avionics sector, at the forefront of designing, developing, and supporting innovative aerospace products.

They are currently seeking a proactive, organised, and methodical Mechanical Draughtsperson to join their engineering design team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking for their first placement in industry or an experienced draftsperson seeking a new challenge.

The Role:
You will play a key part in supporting both legacy and next-generation aerospace products, utilising 3D CAD (SolidWorks) and 2D CAD (AutoCAD).

Key Responsibilities of the Mechanical Draughtsperson

• Modify and develop new and existing product designs using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
• Author, check, and implement design changes (CR/CO), specifications, and supporting documentation.
• Evaluate the impact of design changes on product performance, cost, and maintenance.
• Conduct basic tolerance analysis and apply GD&T and inspection methodologies.
• Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to implement design changes and support production.

What You’ll Need as the Mechanical Draughtsperson

• Degree, HNC/HND, or OND/ONC in Mechanical Engineering or a similar field.
• Familiarity with change control, configuration management, and product lifecycle processes.
• Understanding of design for manufacturability and knowledge of materials, treatments, and finishes.
• Previous experience in a mechanical design office and/or a highly regulated industry (e.g., Aerospace, Defence, Medical, Nuclear) is beneficial.
