Rate: £35-£45/HR Umbrella

About The Role

We require a Senior Mechanical Designer to support one of the projects SRP. The Nuclear Decommissioning Authorities (NDA) Program and Project Partners (PPP) contract model, allows the skills and expertise of both Sellafield Ltd and their Lot Partners to be combined to deliver a step change in major project delivery.

The Sellafield Product & Residue Store (SPRS) Retreatment Plant (SRP) Project will provide a facility that receives Special Nuclear Material (SNM) from existing stores across the Sellafield site and processes it into a form suitable for safe and secure storage until 2120. This is a national strategic asset. This new Retreatment Plant project will make Sellafield safer sooner by;

  • Safely receiving all SNM packages from their current storage locations.
  • Retreating and/or repackaging those packages into 100-year packages.
  • Transferring the new 100-year packages to the Sellafield Product & Residue Store (SPRS); and
  • Enabling all SNM to remain safe and secure in this Store - into the next century and beyond.

The SRP project is currently in the execution phase which incorporates procurement, design, manufacture, works test, installation, and commissioning. This role is required to provide both design support activities to in supply chain, along with completion of outstanding design scope from earlier project phases. Furthermore, the role will include overseeing implementation of formal Design Change.

Key Responsibilities

  • To produce, with input and guidance from the engineering design team, engineering design work packages (3D model, GA, assemble and detail drawing, or assessment of engineering) that satisfy the legal and functional requirements along with the associated performance conditions to the agreed time, cost and quality.
  • Liaising with ADT stakeholders including other disciplines including, CE&I, process, Ops, maintenance, Human factors, construction & subject matter experts were necessary in undertaking the designer role.
  • Provide support to senior engineer for manufacturing and testing queries, including liaison with manufacturers as needed.
  • Provide support to configuration management by updating models and drgs in accordance with Red lines drgs, manufacturing queries (TQ/PP/CR) and changes during testing (TFO, FoB).

Profile

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience in the use of Autodesk inventor
  • Experience in the use of Autodesk vault Basic or Vault Pro (file management).
  • Experience in the production of detail drawings including BoMs
  • Working knowledge of the BS 8888, BS EN ISO 8015, BS EN ISO 1101 & BS EN ISO 5459
  • Experience in providing support to resolution of manufacturing Technical Queries/production permits/concessions
  • Experience of Configuration management

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Awareness and experience or working with SL Engineering Standards and Specifications
  • Retrieval of information from DM desktop and other record management systems
  • Experience in designing in a nuclear environment
  • Experience in design and integration of machines in accordance with the SoMSR
  • Experience in production of Design Risk assessment in accordance with BS EN 12100
  • Working knowledge of CDM, SoMSR, PUWER & LOLER
