Job summary

Owen Daniels is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design / Process Design Engineer in Manchester to lead mechanical design across CHP, Tri-Generation and Battery Energy Storage Systems. The role covers from concept to commissioning, with exposure to diverse energy projects and cross-functional collaboration.

The candidate will manage specifications, PFDs/P&IDs, and CAD coordination, while supporting safety, budget, and supplier relations.

Qualifications

• Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
• 5+ years in energy projects, power generation or similar.
• Experience with pipework and ventilation design.
• Experience in technical project management and design development.
• Knowledge of CDM and health & safety requirements.
• Proficient with AutoCAD 3D.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design of energy projects from concept through commissioning.
• Produce engineering specifications and technical documentation.
• Create PFDs and P&IDs.
• Develop functional and technical design documents.
• Coordinate CAD design activities and site surveys.
• Support safety assessments and budgeting; ensure cost-effective design delivery.
• Liaise with project managers, suppliers and clients.
• Provide on-site technical support and troubleshooting.

Mechanical Design / Process Design Engineer

Location: Manchester

Salary: Competitive

Type: Permanent

Hours: Monday-Thursday 8:30am-5pm | Friday 8:30am-4pm

I'm currently working with an established business within thepower generation and low-carbon energy sectorwho are looking to recruit an experiencedMechanical Design / Process Design Engineerto join their growing team.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a background inenergy projects, power generation and technical designto take ownership of a varied portfolio of technically challenging projects.

The role will involve leading the mechanical design of projects from initial concept through to commissioning and operation, with exposure toCHP, Tri-Generation and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

The Role

• Leading the mechanical design of energy projects
• Producing engineering specifications and technical documentation
• Creating Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
• Producing Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
• Developing functional and technical design documents
• Overseeing mechanical system design
• Coordinating CAD design activities
• Carrying out pipework and pump sizing calculations
• Supporting safety assessments and CDM requirements
• Liaising with project managers, suppliers and clients
• Supporting project budgeting and cost-effective design delivery
• Managing supplier performance and technical sign-off
• Providing on-site technical support
• Carrying out layout surveys and supporting site troubleshooting
• Supporting projects through design, delivery and commissioning
• Contributing to engineering quality and continuous improvement

You'll ideally have:

• HNC/HND or degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• 5+ years' experience within energy projects, power generation or a similar sector
• Strong mechanical engineering experience
• Experience with power generation systems
• Experience with pipework and ventilation design
• Experience with technical project management and design development
• Knowledge of CDM and health & safety requirements
• Experience producing engineering specifications and technical documentation
• Competent with Microsoft Office
• Experience using AutoCAD 3D or equivalent
• Strong problem-solving and technical communication skills
• Good customer, supplier and stakeholder management skills
• Full UK driving licenceExperience withCHP, Tri-Generation, BESS or other low-carbon energy technologieswould be advantageous.
