Job description

Mechanical Design Engineer – SolidWorks Permanent Full–Time

Salary – Circa 44,500 DOE
Location – Office based in Chelmsford

The company designs and manufactures high–performance systems for critical environments across sectors such as automotive, construction, and data centres. Due to continued growth, they are now seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with strong SolidWorks skills to join their engineering team.

Responsibilities, but are not limited to

  • Develop and maintain a high–quality library of 3D models and 2D drawings for manufacturing, certification, and customer use
  • Interpret specifications, sketches, and customer data to produce accurate design solutions and technical drawing packs
  • Modify existing models and drawings to meet project requirements and ensure clarity, compliance, and manufacturability
  • Collaborate with R&D, CNC, and production teams to optimise designs, minimise waste, and support efficient product handover
  • Create documentation and renders for design projects, customer communications, tenders, and marketing materials
  • Perform stress and material behaviour analysis to support design validation where required
  • Attend technical meetings and contribute to project implementation, working towards agreed engineering KPIs
  • Support Quality and Compliance teams with models and drawings for audits, certification, and regulatory requirements

Experiences required

  • Proven experience in 3D CAD modelling using SolidWorks
  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Ability to produce detailed technical drawing packs for manufacture (DFM)
  • Proficient in FEA tools, ideally SolidWorks Simulation or alternatives such as Abaqus, ANSYS, Nastran, Simcenter, or Altair
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality standards (desirable)
  • A full UK/EU driving licence is required
