Job summary

Octagon Group in the Tees Valley area is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join an innovative engineering business developing advanced electronic and electro-mechanical products. The role covers the full product development lifecycle from concept and design through prototype development, validation and manufacture.

You will design precision components using 3D CAD (ideally SolidWorks), create detailed drawings and BOMs, apply DFM/DFA, support thermal and structural analysis, and work with

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Previous experience as Mechanical Design Engineer or Product Design Engineer.
• Strong 3D CAD experience, ideally SolidWorks.
• Experience designing precision machined components and complex assemblies.
• Good understanding of DFM and DFA.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes including CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, castings, injection moulding or additive manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Design precision mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD, ideally SolidWorks.
• Develop enclosures, structural assemblies and thermal management solutions.
• Produce detailed 3D CAD models, drawings and manufacturing documentation.
• Select materials and processes to optimise performance and cost.
• Apply DFM and DFA principles throughout development.
• Perform tolerance analysis and apply GD&T.
• Support thermal and structural analyses as needed.
• Collaborate with electronics, systems and manufacturing engineers for integration.
• Support prototypes, testing, validation and continuous improvement.
• Produce BOMs, assembly docs and Engineering Change documentation.
• Liaise with suppliers and manufacturing teams for NPI.
• Participate in design reviews and engineering investigations.
