Job description

Mechanical Design Engineer - Packaging / Conveyors, Basildon

This role is based in Laindon, Essex, within a purpose-built design, engineering, and headquarters building with 70 employees. The company specializes in designing and assembling filling and packaging lines for aerosols, focusing on the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.

Responsibilities:
  • Produce mechanical design drawings for systems and equipment, including layouts, schedules, bills of materials, sub-assembly drawings, and schematics.
  • Maintain and update existing mechanical drawings and documentation during upgrades or modifications.
  • Act as a liaison between the drawing office, technicians, suppliers, and other departments to ensure proper parts supply and project adherence.
  • Update drawings throughout project lifecycles and manage revisions using Autodesk Vault.
  • Assist with enquiry drawings and site surveys as needed.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Experience with Autodesk AutoCAD (2D), Inventor (3D), and Autodesk Vault; knowledge of other CAD software like SolidWorks is a plus.
  • Understanding of drafting standards (BS 8888) and mechanical design in an industrial environment.
  • Recognized engineering certification or apprenticeship.
  • Knowledge of machining, sheet metal fabrication, and interpreting assembly drawings.
  • Familiarity with automated machinery, conveyor, airflow, ductwork design, and ATEX standards.
  • Ability to work within health and safety guidelines and industry standards.
Remuneration:
  • Salary dependent on experience: £30,000 - £40,000.
  • Training provided as needed.
  • Eligible for pension scheme and other benefits.
