Job summary

TAIT seeks a proficient design engineer (MDLevel II) to contribute to key design phases on projects. You may handle small projects with supervision, liaise with senior engineers on technical, schedule, and budget constraints, and maintain knowledge of cutting-edge technology.

While not a direct manager, you will delegate work and mentor staff as required. You will apply advanced engineering principles, develop detailed designs, and support client interactions from concept to drawings and BOMs,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical) or equivalent.
  • Proficient at 3D CAD.
  • Strong oral and written communication abilities; CPD-oriented.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the full design lifecycle from concept to detailed design.
  • Develop drawings, BOMs, and design documentation with supervision.
  • Produce CGI for client approval and internal communication.
  • Support bids with client requirements analysis, risk assessments, and costing.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and cross‑functional teams to meet tech and schedule constraints.
  • Apply advanced engineering principles with some supervision and mentor staff as needed.
  • Stay aware of emerging technologies and industry trends.
  • Maintain safety, quality, and professional ethics per Engineering Council.

Position Purpose

TheMDLevel IIis a competent design engineer,able totakekey involvement indesign phases of projects.They may assume responsibility for small projects and/orelements with supervisionand will be aware of progress and liaise with the senior engineer regards technical, schedule and budgetary constraints.TheMDLevel IImust maintain knowledge of the cutting edge of technology inrelevantsubject areas. Whilst the role does not involve any direct line management, there will beduties in delegation of work, planning,supporting and mentoring staff as required.An effectiveMDLevel IIwillwork ondevelopingtheirleadership skillsand maintaina positive approach to all challenges.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure safety and quality processes are maintained.
  • Apply advanced engineering principles with some supervision.
  • Stay aware of emerging technologies and industry trends.
  • Build strong working relationships and instil confidence across all levels.
  • Demonstrate principles of high-performance leadership.
  • Uphold professional and ethical responsibilities as defined by the Engineering Council
  • Support development of new techniques, processes, documentation, or products; maintain familiarity with company solutions.
  • Take ownership of project elements or small projects under supervision.
  • Contribute to resolving technical issues using applied expertise.
  • Support bids through client requirements analysis, risk assessments, concept development, costing, and schedule creation; may include site visits and client interactions.
  • Contribute to the full design lifecycle from concept to detailed design, reviews, and release of drawings and BOMs, including review of others’ work.
  • Produce CGI for client approval and internal communication.
  • Support project execution with client coordination, site surveys, technical/commercial queries, and design updates; consider installation and shipping strategies; assist with testing and documentation (e.g., compliance, O&M).
  • Support production through design handovers, queries, inspections, and factory acceptance testing.
  • Provide support for legacy equipment as needed.
Position Requirements
  • Possesses oral and written communication skills, able and competent across the range of platforms used in TAIT (Outlook, Slack & Zoom).
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (typically Mechanical), or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient at 3D CAD.
  • Committed to Continuous Professional Development and engaged in Industry seminars, trade shows and activities of relevant professional bodies.
